Beerus is a character in the Dragon Ball franchise. He is one of 12 Gods of Destruction in the Dragon Ball Multiverse. He is the strongest adversary the Z Fighters have ever gone up against.
Origin[]
In the Dragon Ball Multiverse, Beerus is the God of Destruction of the Seventh Universe. As his job of being the god of destruction, he is tasked to maintain balance in his own respective universe by destroying planets for the creation of new ones. He slumbers for several years to several decades straight, and he destroys planets of his administrative zone during the few years when he is awake. And due to his high rank he does not act on Supreme Kais' orders. The God of Destruction destroys according to his own individual judgment. Also, because he is capricious, he destroys even important planets without a second thought. That's why he is greatly feared by the Kais.
When he finds it bothersome, he lets someone else act as an agent of destruction (for example he told Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta for him). While he is awake, tense days for the Supreme Kais continue, as nobody knows how many planets will be sacrificed. Beerus was trained in martial arts by Whis, his attendant and martial arts master.
One day, the God of Destruction Beerus stopped by King Kai's planet, which was larger at at one time in King Kais life. Beerus and King Kai played a video game together, a car racing one and Beerus lost, so the planet was destroyed by the peeved and easily angered God of Destruction for losing to King Kai. King Kai then took a large leftover fragment, whittled it down to a sphere, and built a road on it so that he could have fun driving there. This became King Kai's current planet.
Another day, King Vegeta had treated Beerus to a feast in his palace on Planet Vegeta before Frieza had killed him. Beerus used the Saiyan King as a stepping stone while he was eating and drinking, much to his humiliation. Prince Vegeta, who is just a kid at that time, was shocked and angered at this sight, but remained silent.
Creation[]
Beerus is created by Akira Toriyama as the antagonist in the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods for his first debut into the Dragon Ball Franchise. As for his character design, Beerus was originally designed as a lizard-like creature, but Toriyama changed the design to be cat-like. Also, Beerus' name in Japanese is based on the german pronunciation of virus.
Evolution[]
As the God of Destruction of the 7th Universe, Beerus is known to lived millions of years and has vast amount of knowledge in fighting, and some sorts. But can be also countered by the fact that he mostly sleeps all his life and wakes up to destroy whatever planets he wants to, whether it's a hostile of peaceful world. Because of that, all knowing beings in the universe, such as the Kais, fears him to the extent of wetting their pants.
Appearance[]
Beerus is a thin, almost skeletal, lavender colored purple cat-like humanoid. He has large pointed ears with a single golden clip on the left. He wears a grayish-black, blue, and gold Egyptian-looking attire with the same white and orange diamond decorations as his attendant Whis.
Personality[]
Despite his overwhelming power and position in the universe, Beerus is very polite while in a good mood. He is even quite playful, not unlike an ordinary cat. However he can be angered very easily and vents that anger through destruction; be it people, planets or entire solar systems. Beerus is extremely confident in his abilities, and with good reason, as he is able to effortlessly dispatch Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and the other Z Fighters at the height of their powers. It's only when Goku becomes a Super Saiyan God that Beerus has to fight seriously.
Story Arcs[]
Battle of Gods[]
A few years after the end of the Dragon Ball Z series, Whis is seen visiting Beerus in his temple. Giant bombs are exploding as a wake-up alarm for Beerus, who still haven't yet to wake up. Whis awakes him by threatening to sing. Beerus, knowing Whis's horrible singing prowess, complies and goes to his dining room to feast.
Beerus contemplates what had happen in his sleep, such as the issue with the Saiyans and King Vegeta, whom he describes as unruly and natural traitors. Whis informs him that the Planet Vegeta is already destroyed by Frieza, along with the race that lives in it. As Beeruls says he should also kill Frieza the next they met, Whis says he doesn't need to, as Frieza is already defeated by a Saiyan known as Kakarot or Goku. Beerus is visibly shocked as Whis shows him the fight that occurred at the old planet Namek and questions how is Goku's hair blonde. Whis informs him that Goku somehow reached a form unique to Saiyans, the Super Saiyan. Upon hearing this, Beerus remembers a vision about him facing a formidable opponent known as the Super Saiyan God.
Beerus talks to the Oracle Fish, who doesn't really remember saying anything about the vision, but agrees with him anyway. He then have Whis track Goku down, and they find him at King Kai's planet. King Kai tries to hide Goku from Bills, knowing that the two would probably fight, but to no avail as Bills detects Goku and Goku asks him for a little spar.
When talking, Bills asks Goku if he knows anything about the Super Saiyan God. Goku says he never heard of anything like that, but knows about the Super Saiyan transformation. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan, SSJ2, and into Super Saiyan 3, and fights Bills, who easily overpowers him with two strikes alone, knocking Goku out. Disappointed, Bills and Whis travels to Earth to seek Vegeta.
When the two arrived on Earth, they immediately talk to a nervous Vegeta about the Super Saiyan God, but the Saiyan prince knows nothing of it. Bulma approaches and they have a court introducton, and invites them to join her birthday party, in which they happily came and interacted with the others. When the bullet from Mai's gun that Gohan deflected hits Bills, the Hakaishin thinks about destroying the planet for it is annoying. Vegeta forgets his pried and does the Bingo dance to calm Bills down, who finds it unclear to react. As Bills and Whis eats, Bills kindly asks Mr. Buu some pudding, but was rejected and mocked. Pissed, Bills attacks Buu and kicks him away with ease. A fight followed.
Piccolo, Android 18, and the other Z Fighters tries to stop Bills, but was defeated in split seconds with ease. Mystic Gohan, Vegeta, and Super Gotenks attacks Bills, only to be beaten with a few strikes. When Bulma rants about Bills's bad behaviour, the God of Destruction slaps her, sending Vegeta into a fit of rage that enabled him to surpass Goku and to seemingly hurt Bills a bit. But even when a point blank Galick Gun was not enough as Bills says Vegeta is still to weak and stomps him. Vegeta accepts his and the Earth's fate, but before Bills could obliterate the planet, Goku shows up and asks for an another chance.
Goku and the others summons Shenlong, who tells them about the Original Super Saiyan God that appeared eons ago to stop the evil and cruelty of the Saiyans, but was unsuccessful due to the form's time limit. To attain the Super Saiyan God form, six pure-hearted Saiyans must hold hands in a ritual and let their powers connect with each other. Goku, with Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Videl with her baby Pan not born yet, succeeds and Goku turns into a Super Saiyan God. Bills and SSG Goku fights throught the city, the forest, until they reach a wasteland.
Both seems to have matching strengths as they went blow after blow. While underground, Beerus comments that he had only used 70% of his power. Goku laughs and says he had used about 80% of his. Angered, Bills uses his speed and ranged attack to overpower Goku, who already lost his God-form but didn't seem to weaken. Goku turns Super Saiyan and they continued their battle until they reached the outer space just above the Earth. Goku uses a kamehameha, but it failed to beat Bills as the god turned his own attack, the God of Destruction Energy Sphere. Bills informs Goku that he already lost his god-form. However, Goku was able to nullify his attack using his god powers, but was too exhausted to fight and admits defeat. Bills tells Goku that he is impressed an that the Saiyan is the second strongest opponent he fought, only next to his martial arts master who is no other but Whis.
On the Earth, Beerus fires a Ki Blast that was supposed to destroy the Earth, but it only destroyed a huge rock. He comments that he, too, exhausted his ki too much, and says that he won't destroy the Earth for now. Goku and the others rejoice and made thanks, and Bills says he'll be back for pudding. When they returned to their temple, Whis gives Beerus some foood he brought from the Earth. Bills tries a huge amount of wasabi, who then, out of the hotness, reacts violently as he flies out and destroys the planets/moons around them. Whis stops him by a karate chop to the head, sending him to sleep for three years.
Fukkatsu no F[]
Beerus is then seen while Goku and Vegeta are training with Whis on his home planet. Recently awoken from his slumber because of the noise, Beerus fires an energy ball to Goku and Vegeta, with both evading the attack. The blast destroyed a planet/moon on the nebula, with Goku saying that it could've killed them. Beerus then sleeps by hanging from a tree as Whis retells the time when Beerus destroyed the two suns in their nebula.
Amidst the battle between Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku and Golden Frieza, Beerus and Whis came to the Earth to eat a dish made by Bulma. The God of Destruction was easily recognized by Frieza, who feared that he might tamper with his plan of vengeance. Beerus, however, says that it is a duel and he would not interfere. Beerus watches the fight with Whis and the Z Warriors and continuously makes funny remarks as well as commenting about the on going fight.
Beerus quickly told Whis to activate his force field when Frieza decided to destroy the Earth as a last resort to win against Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Vegeta, who replaced Goku after the latter got beaten (thanks to Sorbet's meddling). The Earth was destroyed, with Vegeta dying from the exposure from space and Frieza surviving the blast. Beerus comments on how it was Goku's fault for not finishing the fight immediately, and Whis reverses time for Goku to vanquish Frieza forever.
Powers & Abilities[]
Beerus's own powers has and had surpassed that of all the main Dragon Ball Z villains: Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu. Note that Beerus is without a doubt the strongest being in the history of Z. However, this is revoked in the film when Beerus reveals that his martial arts master, Whis, is much more stronger than him. He usually uses his power to destroy planets. Whis stated that Beerus could destroy an entire solar system in an instant. Beerus had used up 70% of his full power in the fight with Super Saiyan God Goku using 80%, and that he had not been that worked up in a long time. The God of Destruction's power is in another dimension altogether, however, he is not as powerful as his martial arts master Whis.
At Fukkatsu no F, Whis said that Beerus destroyed two suns while being sleepy. Beerus is also shown destroying half a planet with a finger and moving around a nebula at Dragon Bal Super.
Superhuman Strength[]
Beerus was able to beat most of the Z Fighters without much effort or seriousness. Being the strongest antagonist of the series, he was able to defeat SSJ3 Goku with two strikes, and simultaneously beat Fat Buu, Piccolo, Tienshinhan, Android 18, Gotenks, Mystic Gohan, and Vegeta. His powers were said to be able to destroy an entire solar system.
Superhuman Speed[]
With the exception of Goku and Whis, no one was seen to be able to keep up with Beerus's speed. Beerus was so fast, he was able to knock out a SSJ3 while undetected. He was able to dodge and evade the Z Fighter's attacks with ease.
Energy Manipulation[]
The most basic powers in DBZ. Beerus can manipulate, sense, and project energy/ki in both offensively and defensively. He can also use it to cause total destruction.
Also, being a God and a higher being, his Ki cannot be sensed nor felt by any being less than a God. Which explains why the Z Fighters were not intimidated by his presence, for they feel nothing of his power unless he wishes them to see.
Master Combatant[]
Trained by Whis, Beerus is a master of martial arts, surpassing Goku and the others. He have vast amount of knowledge, experience and skills, being millions of years old. Although he spent more time in sleeping.
Techniques[]
- Flight – Beerus can fly by means of his Ki.
- Kiai– A force or Ki invisible to the eye. He once used this against Fat Buu. This technique is also used by the Z Fighters.
- Ki Blast – One of the basic techniques used in the Dragon Ball series. However, Beerus has been shown using this technique in a much more greater magnitude than the other fighters.
- Molecular Manipulation – He was shown turning an egg into sand back on his home planet.
- Pressure Point Attack – An attack that strikes the pressure points of the body to render an opponent unconscious. Beerus used this against SSJ3 Goku, making him revert to his Base Form and knocking him out. He also used this on the Z Fighters.
- Wrath of the God of Destruction – An attack that Beerus uses in the Movie and in games. He uses his index finger to fire a very strong Ki Blast. He used this to power-up his God of Destruction Super Energy Sphere against Goku.
- God of Destruction Super Energy Sphere – An attack Beerus used against Goku while battling right above Earth. It looks like a yellow-star energy attack capable of obliterating planets.
- Continuous Energy Bullets – Beerus used this attack against Goku while they are battling underground. Beerus fires many energy beams at a rapid speed. This barrage technique is also similar to Piccolo's Hellzone Grenade attack, but is much more powerful.
